Library events, news and volunteering

Celebrating Green Libraries Week with themed events

This year, National Libraries Week is becoming Green Libraries Week! From 2 to 8 October, libraries across the UK are celebrating initiatives focused on sustainability and the climate emergency.

Lower Earley Library will be holding a green-themed storytime on Tuesday 3rd October, 10am to 10.30am (places must be booked in advance)

Cosy coffee mornings

Cosy coffee mornings will be starting up again this autumn. They will take place at Lower Earley Library on the fourth Friday of the month, 10am to 11.30am.

These are open to all, just drop-in and enjoy a chat with our friendly volunteers, with free tea, coffee and biscuits available.

LEGO Club

LEGO Club will be coming to Lower Earley Library on Friday 13th October, 3.45pm to 4.30pm. The session is free to attend but booking is essential.

Chess Club volunteer

Do you enjoy playing chess? Lower Earley Library is looking for volunteers to support and run a chess club. The club is held on the second Thursday of each month from 4.30pm to 5.30pm and is aimed at children aged eight to 16. Volunteers are not required to teach chess, but would help to supervise, co-ordinate matches and help engage the local community with the club.

Access library services from your own home

Are you unable to reach your local library due to ill health, disability or because you are caring for someone? The home library service can deliver to you.

They deliver a range of reading materials, including large print and audiobooks. These reading materials are delivered by a trained volunteer who will match the items to your reading tastes once every three weeks at an agreed time. The service is completely free of charge to customers.

Enquiries can be made by email and application forms are available online. If you are unable to access the form online, the library service can post this to you.
