Town Council Triumph in Cycle September

Staff at Earley Town Council are celebrating after gaining first place in the medium sized business category of Wokingham’s Global Bike Challenge, Cycle September.

As part of the bid to tackle climate change, residents are being encouraged to travel by bike rather than car whenever possible and the Cycle September event enabled them to log the miles cycled during the month, whether it be commuting to work or cycling for pleasure. To encourage people further, there was an element of competition to the event, a league table of results was produced and participants were in with a chance of winning a prize.

At Earley Town Council, two staff members, Amanda Stevens, Helpshop Officer, and Richard Fryer, Democratic Services Officer, signed up for Cycle September and clocked up an impressive 532 miles during the month, making the Town Council the highest scoring medium sized business in the borough. Their impressive efforts saved 164lbs of CO².

The pair were awarded a framed certificate, confirming Earley Town Council’s first place in the challenge, which will be displayed in the Helpshop at the Town Council offices in Radstock Lane. As one of the highest scoring females in the competition, Amanda also won a £100 voucher for a local bike shop.
